Petition to End Factory Farming
85% of animals who are farmed in the UK are confined inside industrial units where they are kept in appalling conditions. These animals deserve love, respect, and freedom, instead of being treated as disposable commodities. These factory farms also cause immense amounts of pollution into local environments and ecosystems, regularly breaching environmental regulations, as well as fuelling climate catastrophe which threatens all life across the globe. Local residents' quality of life is even affected by their proximity to these toxic factory farms, causing residents to suffer from conditions such as respiratory issues, nose bleeds, and headaches.
These big businesses are consistently putting profit over the rights of people, animals, and planet.
We are calling on DEFRA and the UK Government to take a firm stand against factory farming by banning the building of new factory farms, to begin the process of phasing out factory farming entirely by 2040.
Factory farms are farms where animals are subjected to any of the following: routine confinement in cages, crates or crowded areas; selectively bred for accelerated/harmful growth rates; unable to access their natural behaviours; and/or routinely mutilated to counteract the negative welfare outcomes of intensive farming. These farms imprison 85% of all animals used for meat and dairy in the UK.
The public call on the government to prioritise public health, the environment, and animal freedom above big companies' endless hunger for profit.
