Free Luna
Red Court Farm has the power to release Luna into sanctuary to live safe and free for the rest of her life
As you may know, for the past few months, Animal Rising has been investigating life inside Red Court Farm in Ipswich. Our cameras followed a mother pig named Luna for a month: her life, her babies, and the conditions around her. As we learned about her as an individual and a mother, what we saw made us sick. Millions of pigs like Luna are imprisoned on factory farms. But now that we know her, we can’t ignore the chance to change her future.
Luna gave birth inside a farrowing crate: a metal enclosure that keeps a mother pig in one position while her piglets move around her. She could only either stand up and lie down. She could not turn around or walk. We repeatedly saw her biting the bars, a recognised sign of stress in pigs prevented from doing what they're wired to do.
Even inside that crate, Luna tried. She fed her piglets. She resisted, pushing against the bars, resisting the farmers when they came for her babies. The crate stops a mother pig from mothering in any real sense, but it didn't stop Luna from trying.
Then her babies were taken from her. She had no way of knowing why, or where they were going. She couldn't even turn to watch them go.
And she will be subjected to this over and over. According to our investigations, based on her cycle, Luna has almost certainly already been inseminated again. Later this year, she'll be confined once more to give birth to another litter, and the pattern repeats: pregnancy, confinement, birth, separation. In the same barn as Luna, some mothers were on their eighth pregnancy.
We saw where that leads at Red Court Farm. A neighbouring sow we named Renee was severely lame, barely able to stand, before she was forcibly removed from her crate and killed. Across the farm, we documented other lame and injured sows, and dead piglets left strewn about in the farrowing units.

We don't want that to be Luna's future. There's another option.
Red Court Farm can free her. We're asking them to do exactly that.
But it's crucial we have your help to build the pressure. This is a fight we can win. Public pressure is powerful and Red Court Farm is not immune: the more people watching, the harder Luna's story is to ignore. And we have a plan…
From 1 September, Animal Rising campaigner Michelle Farnham is spending 21 days and nights living inside a farrowing crate in Trafalgar Square to introduce the public to the cruelty that roughly 200,000 mother pigs are experiencing in this very moment.
We’re in awe of Michelle's bravery, but importantly the suffering Michelle is willing to endure is a fraction of what Luna endures every day. Michelle can walk out when the 21 days are over. Luna can't.
That's why we need you to sign and multiply your impact by sharing this petition as far as you can. Every signature tells Red Court Farm that people are watching.

I’m writing you today to please consider an end to animal cruelty in the food and farm industry. Bring an end to these barbaric ways. If the public knew, they would be horrified (and regulations do well to ensure that they don’t). Every meat eater should have to tour a slaughterhouse. You need to be horrified to be changed. As was I, a meat eater for 40 years turned vegan once I found out the realities of the industry in its entirety. My empathy could not allow it. Are you not horrified you send animals to death for 10 minutes of enjoyment?
Find it in yourself to tap into your empathy. These animals are sentient, with the intellect of a 3 year old and the playfulness of a family pet. If you’re horrified Korea eats dog meat, then you should be horrified you’re eating a Pig, Cow, Chicken or Lamb. Are you not ashamed of the conditions you have to put these animals in to continue this?
Just because they’re “livestock” doesn’t mean they hold less value than any other animal. They are all living being with thoughts, feelings, joy, fear and pain. Please consider finding your empathy and compassion and supporting the end to the mass death and slaughter of animals.
Please release Luna, and others like her. Lean into the plant based movement. A pig farm in the USA just turned itself into a mushroom growing facility and they can’t keep it stocked. Vegans will may more for a lions mane, black oyster, or chanterelle mushroom then someone would for a pork loin. GLADLY. -

Sharon Hazelden signed 2026-10-16 12:28:21 +0100Luna has had no life, just imprisonment whilst pregnant & giving birth over & over & over & over. That’s no life! She’s had her freedom cruelly taken from her, not being able to carry out natural behaviour or care for her piglets as she would. She is just ONE case of millions of innocent pigs that have been treated this way. Pigs are sentient beings, they’re naturally caring & loving mothers but, again, she has had that cruelly taken away from her by the industrial factory farming in existence nowadays. It’s NOT right & it’s NOT ok to treat animals like slabs of meat while they’re still alive! Luna can be freed to allow her what time she has left to live a better, free, comfortable life where she can carry out natural behaviour outside in the sun or the rain & be free to roam around. You can make a small act that will have a huge impact. If you have any ounce of compassion, I urge you to release her from this imprisoned life of misery & suffering NOW!! -

Leticia Tavares signed 2026-10-16 11:44:39 +0100Luna’s story is heartbreaking, but sadly, she represents the suffering of countless animals in an industry where cruelty has become normalized.
As a nutritionist, I also want to emphasize that we do not need to eat animal flesh to live healthy lives. The scientific evidence is extensive. The Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023 (NNR2023), based on a comprehensive review of scientific research, support a predominantly plant-based diet for human health and environmental sustainability. The IPCC also recognizes the important role of shifting towards more sustainable, plant-based diets in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
A well-planned vegan diet can meet our nutritional needs. We have the knowledge and the alternatives. Continuing to subject billions of sentient beings to suffering and premature death is not a nutritional necessity.
And this does not mean abandoning farmers or destroying their livelihoods. Governments should provide financial incentives, education and practical support to help farmers transition towards sustainable, locally appropriate plant-based agriculture, while restoring ecosystems and protecting biodiversity.
We need a just transition that protects animals, supports farmers and workers, and reduces the environmental damage caused by our food systems.
We have the scientific knowledge. We have alternatives. What we need now is the compassion and political will to change.
I have signed this petition for Luna because her life matters. And so do the lives of billions of other animals who will never have their stories told. 💔🐷🌱
