Save the Beagles: Shut Down MBR Acres

MBR Acres breeds thousands of beagle puppies each year at its site in Cambridgeshire, selling them on for painful, outdated experiments. More reliable and ethical alternatives exist, but these dogs are still being tortured in the name of science.

This is the UK’s chance to be a global leader in modern, humane testing methods that save lives without cruelty. It’s time to shut down MBR Acres for good.

MBR Acres is a house of horrors. Behind its locked gates in Huntingdon, over 2,000 beagle puppies are bred every year, only to be used, abused, and killed in the name of “science.” You can help us end this forever.

Some puppies are bled and dissected on-site, their organs harvested. Others are shipped off for toxicology testing, where they suffer unimaginable pain - poisoned, force-fed chemicals, then killed.

But this doesn’t need to happen. MBR Acres does not need to kill puppies. Scientists have already created new testing methods that can replace these beagles today!

Here are the powerful, proven alternatives to animal testing:

  • Organ-on-a-chip technology
  • AI and advanced computer modelling
  • Human cell-based testing

These methods are more accurate, more ethical, and they don’t require animal cruelty.

This needless suffering is why in 2022, Animal Rising rescued 23 puppies from MBR Acres. This year, the 20 rescuers will be taken to court, pleading not guilty to “burglary.”  This is the year animal testing will be put on trial.

There are growing calls from the public to save these beagles and all animals from outdated, torturous experiments. And that is why we are calling for the Home Office to phase out animal testing, starting by immediately closing MBR Acres and advocating for investment into modern testing methods which are ethical and more reliable.

The UK has a chance to lead the world in modern, humane science by investing in cutting-edge alternatives like AI and organ-on-a-chip technology. It's time for the government to put our scientists, our economy, and our values first. By backing innovation instead of cruelty, we can protect the animals we love and spare countless lives, human and non-human alike.

Please join us in calling for the Home Office to safely rehome the beagles and shut down MBR Acres once and for all.

It absolutely boils my piss that the establishment in their evil, corrupt mindset, believe that it’s perfectly ok to smash someone’s car window and rescue a dog from an extreme heatwave, but yet when innocent people go to a factory run by organised criminals, to rescue beagles from a life of sheer torture and horror, it’s treated as criminal!!!

    Make that make sense!!!

We all know why they treat it as criminal, it’s because the evil bastards in that factory are making profit from these poor tortured dogs!!

This criminal operation MUST END!!! otherwise the people of this nation WILL take matters into their own hands!!!

How has such abhorrent cruelty to animals ever been allowed to continue for so long?

There can be no justification for inflicting pain, suffering and death on innocent, defenceless animals who have no voice and no choice in what is done to them. It is deeply troubling that we have laws intended to protect animals from unnecessary suffering, yet some animals can be subjected to procedures and treatment that would rightly be condemned as cruelty in other circumstances. How can such a double standard be justified?

We describe ourselves as a civilised and compassionate society, yet we must question what those words mean if we continue to permit animals to endure suffering in our name.

That this has reportedly continued for around 40 years makes it even more disturbing. Decades of suffering should not be accepted simply because a practice has historically been permitted. Where there are serious questions about the scientific value, necessity and human relevance of animal experiments, particularly where alternative methods are available, those questions must be answered openly and transparently.

Animals are sentient beings capable of experiencing fear, distress and pain. They deserve meaningful protection, not loopholes that allow suffering that would otherwise be considered unacceptable.

Financial interests, convenience or established practice must never take precedence over animal welfare. Those responsible for authorising, funding and carrying out animal experimentation must be accountable for demonstrating why it is necessary and why non-animal alternatives cannot be used.

Forty years is already far too long. We should be moving towards humane, scientifically relevant alternatives and ending unnecessary animal suffering.

The voiceless cannot speak for themselves. It is therefore our responsibility to speak for them and demand better.
